Well I finished the first in the series, Death of a Gossip, and gave it 3 stars. I really enjoyed the setting and the comfortably familiar plot devices, but was disappointed by the over hasty and rather risible denouement, which really let it down.

That said, the strength of the book is in it's characterisations, and the slowly emerging character of Hamish himself, and because of these reasons I have moved straight on to the second book, Death of a Cad .
