Some have suggested a built-in reader is optimized for better battery life (perhaps it sleeps between page turns?), but there are multiple included readers and I've never seen anyone mention which they're using when making this claim, or what kind of improvement.
Using the onyxreader that opens pdfs and epubs from the default homescreen, I'm seeing a little improvement over my use of 3rd party readers like overdrive and kindle, perhaps as much as 25% better. I'll report back as I get a better idea of the difference.
Edit: I actually got a full 14 days this time vs 7 days using 3rd party readers, but the results were skewed a little because bad weather prevented me from reading outside much, so although I still read about 1 hour per day, it was during one session instead of two like the first test, which means only one cold boot per day, and that might account for some of the improvement. Better weather is ahead, so we'll see.
