You are of course correct. I looked at authors and without looking at code I wrote 4 years ago assumed that they all behaved like that.
What all-but-authors do today is show you the items in the VL. Changes to those items will be library-wide.
Four changes are possible.
- Change the dialogs to show all items regardless of VL and to operate library-wide. This is my preference.
- Change the dialogs to modify only the books in the VL. This will raise the problem of what to do when the user wants to change (for example) a series library-wide.
- Add more lines for manage_[tags, series, publisher] and add another line in the context menu "manage X" to "manage x in VL". The lines in the drop down would be greyed if there was no VL. This increases complexity for perhaps little benefit.
- Change nothing.
