Aldus Manutius: Father of the Portable Book

The Grolier Club in Manhattan is hosting an exhibition of the work of Aldus Manutius, a late-fifteenth-century Venetian printer who is credited as the first to print books in a smaller, more portable format, according to this article. He was also the first to print in italic type.
