Hi,

There were a number of long standing bugs in Sigil versions 0.8.0, 0.8.1, and 0.8.2 that were finally tracked down and fixed in 0.8.3 and 0.8.4. I do NOT recommend running any earlier version of Sigil than 0.8.4 as it stands right now. All earlier versions have known bugs that can easily cause random crashes.

I have had two reports of issues with 0.8.4 and neither is Sigil's fault.

1. bad or incomplete openssl libraries installed by some apps that results in crashes and failures to start. Solution, find and remove these incomplete openssl dlls as they should never have been installed by any program. Sigil does not actually use openssl but Qt5.4 will try to load and use it if it finds it.

There is a thread here about all of this here: (please read it to the end to see if it applies in your case)

2. a weird crash caused by the Vista Desktop Theme issue that seems to only impact some Vista users. The solution is to disable the theme to allow Qt5.4 to work and therefore Sigil.

There is a thread with more information here (again please read this thread to see if it applies to you).

So I strongly recommend sticking with Sigil v0.8.4 and report only if and when it crashes in some repeatable manner to rule out instabilities of your own system.

Thanks,

KevinH
