That's by far the best way to do it anyway. You really wouldn't want to use either machine with 1000 books on it - navigation just becomes too slow. I currently have about 250 books on my Gen3 (using about 40% of the internal memory) and you really wouldn't want too many more.

There's free software from MobiPocket's web site called "MobiPocket Creator", which makes it easy to create a MobiPocket book from virtually any input format.
