I got the free app last night and did receive the email stating a $1 MP3 credit has been applied to my account. But it isn't showing when I check the credit balance at
How to Check Your Account for Digital Music Credit. Did it appear there immediately after your purchase?
I haven't purchased any other apps recently that would void this offer. And, like I said, I did receive the credit confirmation email.
