Not specifically; I read through the comments and followed some directions that seemed to fit my circumstance, but in the end, I still had locked books.

Because then I would have to go look up how to get the nook and kobo apps, learn how to sideload them to Kindle Fires, and then do it three times (for each of my kids' Kindles.)

I'll go dig around the Mobileread Amazon Kindle forums and see if there is a thread about sideloading apps. (I'm sure there must be although I haven't been in there before.) Thanks!
