Best firmware now?

Been quite some time since I checked in, and it's hard to find a particular answer; what's the best available firmware for the Touch now? I'm still pretty happy on 2.4.0, but my wife is getting really shirty with her 2.6.1, which was an accidental install; it keeps freezing and becoming completely unresposive, including physical buttons, meaning a pinhole reset Somehow she's still managed to read nearly 150 books on it...

So which one should I grab for her, and should I bother upgrading mine? Will all the reading life etc remain?

Sorry if I missed a sticky somewhere, if I didn't, I think it would be a good idea to have one with an updated first post with the "greatest hits". I know when I used to hang around here it was very hard to figure out which was the best firmware at the time.
