Thumbs up Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo/DRM-free) 3 stories from Tor.com [Award-Nom Sci-Fi & Fantasy]

Well, it's awards season time again, and accordingly, Tor.com are making some of their eligible nominated online stories available in convenient portable e-book format, free courtesy of publisher Macmillan's Tor Books imprint.

This time around, it looks like there's two fantasy things (one with a possible horror-ish edge, and the other semi-historical), and a futuristic sfnal piece set in modern-ish New York-equivalent with some mystery/suspense elements.

These haven't quite dropped to free in all the stores and regions yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
  1. The Devil in America by Kai Ashante Wilson (ISFDB) @ B&N (also UK), Amazon & Kobo & Google Play & iTunes (all available to Canadians).

Scant years after the Civil War, a mysterious family confronts the legacy that has pursued them across centuries, out of slavery, and finally to the idyllic peace of the town of Rosetree. The shattering consequences of this confrontation echo backwards and forwards in time, even to the present day.
  2. The Mothers of Voorhisville by World Fantasy Award winner & Stoker nominee Mary Rickert (ISFDB, Wikipedia) @ B&N (also UK), Amazon & Kobo & Google Play & iTunes (all available to Canadians).

From multiple World Fantasy Award winner and Nebula, Bram Stoker, International Horror Guild, Sturgeon, and British Science Fiction Award nominated author Mary Rickert comes a gorgeous and terrifying vision of the Mothers of Voorhisville, who love their babies just as intensely as any mother anywhere. Of course they do! And nothing in this world will change that, even if every single one of those tiny babies was born with an even tinier set of wings.
  3. Sleep Walking Now and Then by World Fantasy Award-winner & Lambda nominee Richard Bowes (ISFDB, Wikipedia) @ B&N (also UK), Amazon & Kobo & Google Play & iTunes (all available to Canadians).

"Sleep Walking Now and Then", by Richard Bowes, is a weird, futuristic novelette about an interactive theater production in The Big Arena (aka New York City) and the mystery surrounding its inspiration.
