There are still quite a few formatting/display/usability issues - interline and interparagraph spacing can't be adjusted by the user (and are way too large for my taste), you can't use your own fonts and are stuck with Times or Arial. There also used to be problems with special characters (German umlauts etc.) - making texts containing lots of those almost unreadable. Anti-aliasing first didn't work at all, then worked badly. The latest release seems to have vastly improved the anti-aliasing and special character problems, though.

In short, it's getting there, but it's not quite there, yet.

And to answer your firmware question more generally: All firmware versions (Jinke, BeBook, lBook, EZReader, Papyre, etc.) can be used interchangeably, you can also freely downgrade from a newer to an older version.
