Thinking about life in the jungle... and what images that evokes. Here's some reality.
Chiang Mai is the last stop on the rail line heading north towards Burma. Anywhere where there are no buildings, there is 'jungle foliage.' Snakes, bugs, birds, etc. There are many small bamboo huts...between large modern condominium buildings. Street markets and vendors walking the streets selling from baskets slung between poles over their shoulders, but also a few modern shopping malls. Of course, beyond the mall parking lots the jungle starts again. Only a handful of 'tall' buildings here, the tallest being 18 floors. I live on the 15th of 16 floors, and I shot this from the window with my cell phone camera last night just as the sun was going down behind the mountains...
