Hi,

I have acquired a Kindle 4 that won't turn on. It came with the battery removed, so I bought a replacement on eBay. I charged it for 24 hours (amber USB light on, although it goes off after a while)

If I do lsusb, it give me:

ID 15a2:0052 Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. i.MX50 SystemOnChip in RecoveryMode

I first tried the Kubrick boot CD, which gets me to the point where it asks me to put the device in fastboot mode. After trying the power/dpad down key sequence, it says waiting for device. Looking at lsusb again shows that the device is no longer listed.

Coming back into my regular Ubuntu from Kubrick, plugging in, I see this in syslog:

usb 1-3: new high-speed USB device number 20 using ehci-pci
usb 1-3: New USB device found, idVendor=15a2, idProduct=0052
usb 1-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 1-3: Product: NS Blank CODEX
usb 1-3: Manufacturer: Freescale SemiConductor Inc
hid-generic 0003:15A2:0052.0013: hiddev0,hidraw0: USB HID v1.10 Device [Freescale SemiConductor Inc NS Blank CODEX ] on usb-0000:00:1a.7-3/input0
mtp-probe: checking bus 1, device 20: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.7/usb1/1-3"
mtp-probe: bus: 1, device: 20 was not an MTP device

After doing the key sequence, I see this:

usb 1-3: USB disconnect, device number 20

If I run ./imx_usb.sh from the kubrick cd while in regular Ubuntu, I get this:

parse mx50_usb_work.conf
15a2:0052(Kindle) bConfigurationValue =1
Interface 0 claimed
report 1, wrote 16 bytes, err=0
report 3, read 4 bytes, err=0
read=56 78 78 56

So I tried this:

./fastboot continue

And get this:

< waiting for device >

I know this is an old device. Anyone knowledgable still willing to offer advice?

Many thanks,

J
