So, when I said "corrupt database", that didn't sound like something was amiss? Something has caused the database on the device to be corrupted. You need to fix that. Once it is fixed, the problems you have complained about in the previous posts will go away.

Fixing the database can be done by restoring a good backup if you have one, or doing a sign-out on the device. This will restart the device and take you through the setup again. Then it will load all the sideloaded books. If this doesn't work, you might need to do a factory reset.

The area to touch to go home or reading menu settings doesn't work half the time, and pages skip on their own. I've tried several of the settings for touch on the page. Is there a touch calibration app on the Kobo? It is really slow to respond.
My son's Glo did that once. The reason was some dirt caught under the bezel. Cleaning that out fixed it.

I've got one book with a really small font. The Kobo will increase it, but if I read for a bit and try to get the reading settings back to readjust, I can't.

Backing up is no problem - most of my books were open epub and from places like Creative Commons. They are all on the ext. SD card.
Assuming you are talking about the backup in the plugin, it only backs up the database. This is to enable a quick recovery if the database gets corrupted or a factory reset it needed. The books are not included.

Looking at the Kobo settings in the plug-in - why would you have to rate a book? There's columns that showed up that mean nothing to me as I wouldn't need them.
Then don't use them. None of the options are mandatory. They are there because someone wanted them. And they are optional as I know that not everyone wants them.

And picking the ratings, a lot of people are peeved that Kobo removed the ability to rate sideloaded books from recent firmware

The only useful part would be to automatically go to the page I was reading and get the junk off the home page of the Kobo.
Fix the database on the device and that should be OK.
