It's a nice thing that Ellen did ... doing a giveaway like that. It would be even better for the Sony if she endorsed it in the way Oprah did the Kindle.

Also, unless there was some sort of show devoted to the Sony, I don't see a giveaway as having the same marketing impact that the Oprah endorsement gave the Kindle.

However, I suspect that the Oprah endorsement could be a good thing for the ebook reader industry in general. There are going to be people who are going to be interested in ebooks, but (for whatever reason) aren't going to like the Kindle. And, those people will (we hope) purchase another ebook reader and put some more bucks into the ebook industry.
