Boys Over Flowers: Season 2 Chapters, Vol. 1 by Yōko Kamio (
Wikipedia) is the 1st volume in a continuation of her highly popular Shogakukan Award-winning manga-and-accompanying-anime-and-live-action-adaptation shōjo manga series (
Wikipedia) set at a prestigious elite school, starring a student from a working class background (this has different characters from the original, but the same premise, according to its own
Wikipedia entry), free courtesy of publisher Viz.
This is part of a
special promotion for the sequel which releases the new chapters simultaneously with the Japanese printing via the Viz mobile app, and also makes them available for Kindle apps in a mini-collected edition as well.
Currently free @
Amazon (available to Canadians & in the
UK). ETA: turns out you can also read this online
over at the Viz website via their in-browser viewer (requires Flash).
ETA: Volume 2 is now released @
Amazon (available to Canadians & in the
UK) and for online reading @
Viz.
This is probably a Kindle Comic Book format title which will need a certain level of actual device/tablet app to both get and read, although I will note that if you have the converted Kindle app installed on say, a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, you can "buy" the freebie for your account, but you can't read it as the last working version is too old to actually load the resulting file.
Also, it's around 86 megs in size, so you probably don't want to be downloading this via 3G if you've data plan limits.
And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.
Because yadda yadda inordinate fondness for dragon-boat cultures (and neighbouring spin-offs which were inspired by them) and all that, and also it's nice to see a major manga publisher getting into the e-reader compatible official publisher promo freebies, in a way, and I hope they eventually decide to do more, even if I've no way of
actually conveniently reading this myself short of acquiring a compatible new device.
Enjoy!
