Capitalized, it's the name of a descendant of Ham. Without the cap, it means "idiot" .... it's slang that actually predates Prof. Bunny by some years. Or ... I could be wrong .... it may be that (according to one source) the slang comes from B Bunny calling Mr. Fudd a "poor little Nimrod" as a reference to Mr. Fudd's being a hunter. Although, more research is clearly indicated .... I simply must know the answer to this!!
And, I'm positive he said maroon .... but I'll agree that the raccoon can be a complete and total nimrod.
