If you get a refurbished unit
as a replacement for a defective reader that's still in its warranty period, you will still have whatever remaining time on the original warranty for the original purchase left. If you bought it 9 months ago, you'll have 3 months warranty remaining on the refurbished unit.
Note that if you specifically purchase a refurbished reader like I did, it comes with the full 1 year warranty, just like buying a new reader would. But that's not what you're doing, so don't confuse the 2 different instances when you hear us comment that they have a full warranty.

No. They repack them up so they ship well and stay
looking like new. You really should not be able to tell the difference between a new or refurbished Kindle. It might have "refurbished" printed on the box somewhere or a sticker, I can't remember how mine came.
