No, because if it was the sewer the toilet a floor lower would also smell of it, plus their sewer is connected to another sewer system around the corner. The only thing I can think of is that my toilet is against their wall and maybe one of the air venting systems is hooked up to the same channel as my toilet. The extractor hood of other neighbours is connected to the channel of another toilet and when they cook (especially spicy food) you smell it. These old, old houses are often connected to their neighbours in the weirdest ways.
