Found my own answer, I think; just have to side load again & reinstall.

The problem is Amazon's vicious secret policy of not allowing apps to be installed onto a Fire HDX. Aldiko is available on Amazon BUT not for the Fire HDX; the kindle did a "backup" to the cloud even tho the app was side loaded & when trying to get the app back to the device, the Fire HDX tried to install the app from the Kindle store which failed because Amazon won't allow the app to be installed onto a Fire HDX.

I can use the app from the cloud IF I had a connection to wifi. However, this definitely contradicts somewhat that Amazon won't backup side loaded apps given a certain situation. I think that stuff got "backed up" to the cloud when I did a "resync" in an attempt to get back my paid app MangaRock; don't think that the shuffle to the cloud was done when I powered off the Fire HDX.

Saw question about turning off the "recycle" selection; will have to check as using the Amazon sync is dangerous.
