Just finished cleaning off the driveway - it's what I call 'heart attack' snow - thick ice crust over soggy heavy snow that sticks to the pavement and to your shovel. But with a week of 0 F or below night freezes coming up, I knew whatever I left today would stay put until at least next Monday. So crack the ice with the shovel and push the sludgy mess to the side, repeat, repeat ... more leg work than back strain ...
I'm very proud of the ice river I created at the bottom of the driveway (which runs downhill at around a 45 degree angle) - to direct the melt water into tire ruts in the street leading into a storm drain.
Whew! Off to sit against several heating pads and swill a Guinness!
N.B. The ice crust was still so thick (at 1:00 in full sunshine & 37 F) that walking on it did not break through - it was like a skating rink.
