This should be an authoritative biography of Tolkien--the author, Colin Duriez, has written numerous books on Tolkien and his works (along with C.S. Lewis and his works). Those books are all highly to very highly rated.

I happen to have noticed that the price of this book at Christianbook (ePub, DRM Free) is $0.79. That means that most, if not all, of the "usual suspects"--Kobo, Google Play, Barnes & Noble, et al.--probably have similar markdowns now on this book.
