With Amazon, once you are in Kindle for PC, you have to sync before you can download the eBook. I just thing ADE is easier. It may not be much easier, but it is easier. And then finding a specific ePub eBook is easier because you have filenames that make sense. If you are looking for the newwest downloads, then you sort by date and that's not a problem. So ADE wins yet again in finding a specific eBook.
6 of one half a dozen of the other. I don't find either too onerous...

Kindle
1) Buy book & select send to K4PC
2) Open K4PC and wait a few seconds for it to download pending items
3) De-DRM or add to Calibre for De-DRMing (whatever your workflow)
4) Done

ADE
1) Buy book
2) Go to library at Kobo, Google, etc. & download .acsm
3) Open acsm which launches ADE and downloads book
4) De-DRM or add to Calibre
5) Done

Amazon's filenames can be a slight pain if you keep your downloads in the app after de-drming. If you clean out the Kindle content folder after de-drming they don't matter much.
