Are you completely switching off your reader or letting it go to sleep between uses? I believe all readers take more time when cold starting, so if that's what you're doing, that's normal. There's really no advantage to not using the sleep function though, it's minimal battery drain, you won't even notice any difference usually. The battery drain comes from changing the pages, when the e-ink has to redraw the page. Once it sits on that same page, there is next to zero battery drain at that point.

And as others have said, I'd load smaller batches of your book at a time until you have them all on. A badly formatted book could be causing problems, and it would be easier to find in smaller batches.
