Sure, but there is nothing preventing them from switching to Android on an eink based device, much as later Sony ereaders. Personally, I would hate such a switch.
It would be nice to have a faster processor coupled with faster internal non-volatile memory. Kobo's ereaders are quite slow in some respects (e.g. processing content) and can be quite slow in other respects (e.g. loading certain ebooks).
Now that Sony is out of the ereader market, maybe Kobo was able to negotiate with Overdrive for integrated library lending. That would be an incredibly useful feature to some of us.
