Jason and Daniel are back in the second Hunter & Holmes Mystery, Double Fugue. While The Kidnapping focused primarily upon Jason’s ordeal and how he and Daniel decided to figure out who was responsible, Double Fugue revolves around Daniel and his evolving passion for music. Ethan Savage, a rock music legend and one of Daniel’s musical inspirations, is playing the final concert of his farewell tour in San Jose. Daniel wants to go see Ethan off even though he doesn't have a ticket, but his parents forbid him to go. Luckily Daniel finds out the route home that Ethan will be taking the day after the concert from Diana. Since his parents didn't forbid him to ride his bicycle, Daniel decides to bicycle to a spot where he would most likely be seen by Ethan on his trip home.

After a successful meet and greet, coupled with a brief private music lesson from Ethan, the mood rapidly changes when Daniel witnesses Ethan’s bizarre abduction a little later. Worse yet, Daniel is also taken prisoner. A series of incredible adventures ensues.
Earlier, Jason is asked to help 14-year-old Eric Acosta, nephew to one of Jason’s neighbors, whom he senses has been the victim of a vicious crime. Unfortunately Eric has become traumatized and is unwilling to communicate with anyone making the situation much more difficult. Jason, Daniel, and Mr. Connor drive down to the small town where Eric lives to offer their friendship and other forms of assistance to try and break through to Eric. This becomes the first case for Jason’s Whatever Foundation, formed to help teenaged crime victims. What they discover in the process is both heart wrenching and upsetting.
