oh boy, i sympathise with that.
it's my number one reason for never eating in chinese restaurants. also i love when you ask for something vegetarian, and they say, "vegetarian ? well, is chicken okay ? how about fish ?" as if chicken and fish were in fact vegetables. other favorite is when you see an ostensibly vegetarian product in the supermarket, but it turns out that (for example) the spinach and riccotta cannelloni have been prepared with chicken broth.
