For those who urge me to upgrade to Win 8.1 I really don't think this is the forum to discuss it in detail. Suffice to say I have tried it on work and home PCs and loathe it totally, for various reasons, mainly concerned with bugginess, slowness and its refusal to run many programs that work fine on Win8. I have to say, if you are having issues with Win 8.1 like you mention, then either your Win 8 install is gummed up and you need a fresh install or your hardware is flaky and you need fix it or replace it. You see, if you cannot run Windows 8.1, you won't be able ot run Windows 10 or any other future version. I've been using Windows 8.1 on two laptops and a Surface Pro 2 with none of the issues you've mentioned.
Since Win 8.1 isn't working, mybe whatever is gumming up the works for Win 8.1 is lso gumming up the works for Win 8. What processor does our computer have?
