Hi all,
I'm having a troublesome time with my newly acquired PRS-350. Here's what I've done:
- successfully installed PRS-PLUS (which was my main objective)
- out of curiosity, put on russified porkupan (boroda). this removed prs-plus
- decided I wanted to remove the russified porkupan to return to prs-plus
now here's where the problems begin:
- trying to reinstall prs-plus , gives me this error message:

- I then tried to upgrade the firmware using the official sony prs350 updater (PRS-350_Updater_1.0.00.14080.exe) from their website, using the Windows 7 version as that's what I'm running (see below)
- it reboots the reader, then comes up with this error message:
Things I've tried:
- did a hard reset of the reader, hoping it would let me install the new firmware - no. Also, even after a hard reset, the russified remained on the reader.
- used a different usb cable - no
- used a different usb port - no
- tried same procedure on another computer (my tablet) - no
- tried to uninstall the russified porkupan using the ebook_msc.exe command within dos: comes up with this error:

Also my UAC is switched off in Windows.
- tried to install earlier versions of prs-plus (PRSP_350_2.1.01alpha, PRSP_350_2.0.18, PRSP_350_2.0.17rc3) hoping they would accept the 8100 firmware, but all had the same error message: unsupported firmware.
- tried to google an earlier version of Sony PRS350 updater - couldn't locate any, all sites point to the latest firmware.
This has me stumped. I was originally able to install prs-plus, but since putting on the russified I can't remove it, or reinstall PRS-plus, or do a new firmware update. My reader is still functional, but it's stuck on an old firmware and still russified.
so in short: I want to remove the russified porkupan from my reader, install the latest sony firmware for the prs350, and put prs-plus back on. Any help would be dearly appreciated. Thankyou!
