Question, can the sleep timer be disabled without jailbreaking? If nt, a Kindle would not be a good choice for using as a cookbook or to display crating instructions.

A Reader such as a Kobo Aura would be better because you cn turn off the sleep timer of set it for a higher value (I don't know if the highest value would be long enough, but a setting of never would be).

The reason I say a longer sleep timer is needed (or the ability to turn off the sleep timer) is because there could be cases where you are in the middle of something be it cooking or crafting where you can't easily turn the Kindle screen back on.
