Indeed, since sesquipedalian literally means something that's 18 inches (45cm) long, it's a very good word for long words. Bunging hippopotamus and monstrous at the start doesn't enhance it in my eyes.

Google N-Gram viewer doesn't list hippopotomonstrosesquipedalian at all, but sesquipedalian has long usage. Unlike antidisestablishmentarianism!
