Thank you for your reply! The Paperwhite is 3 months old. I've contacted Amazon and they offer a replacement. It will be complicated as I'm not living in the country where I bought it, so it implies sending it there, me paying the post. But if no other solution comes out I'll have to try the replacement, cumbersome though it is.
