There is also the series, The King's Hounds, by the Danish author Martin Jensen.

The story takes place in the 11th century, when the Danish king Cnut has conquered most of England.

The protagonists are a former monk and a young ruined nobleman hired by the king to investigate various crimes.

There are 6 books in Danish and the first 3 are available in English.
