Hi Everyone. New to mobileread and got here through an extensive search for help with my current problem. I think I am in the right place for help with this, if not may someone please give me some tips on what next.

I have three dedicated ereaders in the house. Not counting iPads, phones, etc.

Two Kobo Touch
One Kobo Glo - model N613

The Kobo Glo is new/use one that I bought locally a few days ago. The person I got it from said that it was too much tech for her and she preferred paperbacks. Ha! that's what my wife said before I got her a Kobo Touch, and now she doesn't go anywhere without it.

A n ee w aaa ys. Back to the new2me Kobo Glo. I can't get it to boot and work. I have experienced all of the symptoms spread throughout this thread. At the beginning when I first plugged it in, it went into the "restoring" screen and hung there. Then it changed to the graphic connect to computer screen. When I connect it to the computer it goes back to restoring screen. After it doing that for awhile it finally connected and was discovered by the computer. I opened the desktop app on my Mac and proceeded with the setup of the Kobo. It downloaded an update and then the Kobo rebooted. It then went into a fritz of fits of blinking between an "updating" screen and the restoring screen. When it finally stopped, it was a stable blank white screen. When I slide to power on, it went back into the restoring screen and stayed there.

I then tried the prescribed resets. paper clip poking through the hole in the bottom. holding the light button and power on button. No change. power on and goes to restoring.

After trying resets a number of times. Then came nothing. when I plug it into the computer, the LED blue comes on for a few second then goes out. blank white screen. nothing else. when I slide for power on, the blue LED comes on for few seconds and then goes out. nothing else. blank white screen. Is this what folks refer to as being "bricked"?

Next I was thinking well maybe there is a serious problem with the SD card, possibly corrupted from all the plugging and unplugging and updating fritz etc. Maybe it has been toast from the beginning and the previous owner had similar problems getting it to work and dumped it to me? So, I opened the Kobo and removed the card and plugged the card into my computer. I could see the card and contents from the computer slot and so promptly copied the files over. thinking how smart I am and got it now - I try to "fix" the SD card, I re-partitioned and then reformatted it and copied the files back onto the card. Did it work? No. Same results. Blank screen and blue LED for a few seconds, nothing else. You can guess why ....

After reading (ALOT) through posts and especially here, I come to understand there are two Linux and one DOS partitions on the SD card. With partitions and specific files that cannot normally be seen by the computer. So I guess that means I REALLY messed it up my Kobo Glo is now dead forever, bricked, unless I have a restored card?

My search for knowledge, answers, and help has brought me to here. My last hope seems to be to start from scratch with a blank "image". I understand the concept of a drive image. Posts here indicate I could get and try a virgin image and put that onto my card and try it. Where do I get an image for the Kobo Glo? And how do I put it on the card? I am using an iMac, and I will use a brand new SD Card.

Help? Thoughts? Tips? Where to next?
