It seems that your Tahoma is missing files. There should be 4 files (regular, italic, bold, bold-italic).
Take my modified version of Charis SIL. It's not only made for a heavier weight, but it's also modified to overcome the line height issue on a Kindle and KF8 eBooks. When I modified the weight, I was using a 650 that does not have any sort of advanced font control. That's a feature unique to Kobo.
