OK, that I understand and I agree with your annoyance. Kobo should have known about the problem as it has come up several times in the last couple of years.

Did you select the "purge" option? If so, that won't get them deleted from the Kobo server when you next sync. And they will be downloaded again. If you didn't use the purge option, do another sync now to clean it up.
