Yes!

Put it all back together and nothing.

I was just about to head out the door and take it back when I saw my phone usb cable plugged into the wall outlet. I thought what have I got to loose now? So I plugged it in and ..wouldn't you know it? It sprung to life!

I don't know why or how it worked but it did. Possibly it had a higher charge rate than the usb ports and just gave it that extra oomph. Or could just simply be the cable. Will try the cable again later to see what happens but for now I'm happy.
