I had cataract surgery in both eyes a few years ago. I went with correcting both eyes for distance vision, a choice I do not regret. This even though while my right eye was corrected to 20/20 my left eye is at best 20/40 vision due to retina problems including macular degeneration. I can't imagine trying to focus with one eye corrected (before surgery I could read sans corrective lens, but my distance vision required very strong lens) for distance and the other not. Now I need reading glasses, but it's worth it for not needing any correction other wise.
