Hmmm... Perhaps they have an "incoming capture mode" that, once the trebuchet has dispatched a collection of carriages, the trebuchet stays in an "upright" mode and collects the arriving carriages giving a (relatively) gentle decleration as well as harvesting back some energy. Once the capture/dispatch deck has reached horizontal, the new arrival can then be shunted along to the next trebuchet in line. A sort of trebuchet relay. That would mean the picture shows two outgoing trains about to depart in opposite directions.
