Front light is a tricky thing for ereaders (any brand and model).
Well, this irregularity is not normal. It is a defect as the light is not distributed even across the screen. The screen should be even from top to bottom and left to right. It shouldn't have those darker and lighter areas. Or maybe a little at the bottom of the screen (less than is visible at the picture) as the front lights are positioned along the bottom of the screen. But the top side of the screen should be flawless
This is a technical defect, which some buyers might find acceptable and/or consider minor. But it is not normal.
That's also why it was not thrown out at QC at the end of the production line. Selling it is cheaper than fixing it as many buyers will accept it (at least that is what manufacturers hope they will do). Replacing it only when a customer complains is much cheaper then replace all units with minor defects at the end of the production line.
You said you just bought the device, and it seems to bother you (at least a bit). The best advice is to replace it while you still can and if you don't, you might regret this later.
My Glo was replaced three times. The first unit had dark spots at the bottom, the second has something similar to your Aura: a horizontal whiter stripe across the top edge of the screen, third unit was fine.
