I carry mine in a pocket all the time without any problems and short of being hit by a bus, it won't get damaged there. I only use an inside pocket that's next to my ribcage, not a pants pocket. And nothing else is in the pocket to put any sort of pressure against the reader. Just depends on the pocket and how careful you are otherwise.
