I wonder why they aren't offering free upgrades to WinXP users? Surely, once MS is committed to giving away free licenses (that they would prefer to be paid for) it doesn't matter whether it is from an unsupported OS, why not try to upgrade the whole Windows ecosystem at once? The other advantages (not having to provide support for old OSes is irrelevant in XP's case) apply here as well -- and XP users are the most likely segment of the Windows ecosystem to ditch for another platform.
