Those arrows on the metal cover indicate to me that it slides. But, maybe Kobo used the same socket as for the external card. This has to be pushed in a little and then released and it pops out.

I was finally able to open it using
this hint and some tweezers.
It indeed was the same as on the picture and I do have the N905B, but it is refurbished, so it might have been changed as a part of a repair.
