If by "real" page count you mean the same as the page count in some paper edition of the book, then I believe Kobo devices have always had this capability, but it depends on the publisher including a valid page-map.xml file in the epub.
I just greped through a couple of hundred epubs that I've bought over the last two years, not a single one has a page-map.xml, so I can't test to see if it actually works.
