we discussed this a few weeks back & you pointed me at an explanation - my thread should be here somewhere. it was the Stephen King dark tower novels as I recall that had sections within chapters within parts, and the the toc entries only pointed to chapters., the new sections would start mid-page often and the page number would stick there until the next section came along. ( when trying to use the whole-of-book page nuber option)

& I also had the opposite problem with a mitchener book, where over-long chapters has been split by publisher but toc did not reflect that. I think you asserted that kobo get it right for the books they sell & that it's a sideloaded _ epub->kepub convert issue.

I don't have that thread on my subscribed list anymore - the relevant conversation may well be buried on one of those overlong firmware 3.xx threads, back when the whole-of-book page number option got added.
