I dont believe you can. The portuguese language is governed by an international treaty called Portuguese Language Orthographic Agreement of 1990. However a lot of lexical differences will remain:
English Brazil Portugal
mouse mouse rato
display tela écrã
about sobre acerca de
phone fone auscultador
cell phone celular telemóvel
file arquivo ficheiro
...
Furthermore, the people living in Portugal not welcomed the new spelling of portuguese language.
In most of cases I can't understand the speaking from Portugal, indeed. (I had a portuguese client recently and was very difficult understand when he spoke to me.)
