I usually do so I'm wondering if it folds back comfortably, and doesn't put the device into 'sleep mode'.

I do fold it back and it seems comfortable to me. It does not put the unit to sleep, however I am still using the original hemp cover with the incorrectly placed magnet that will not put the Kobo to sleep at all.
