The Kingbird by Justine Davis is a tie-in short novella, apparently at the #2.5 mark, to her Coalition Rebellion series of f/m sci-fi space opera adventure romances set amidst a galactic empire with slavery in it that's undergoing, you guessed it, a rebellion by the slaves, free courtesy of publisher Bell Bridge Books.
This is apparently being offered to promote the 3rd in series, which is slated for release at the end of January. From the looks of it, there's probably spoilers in this novella for the 1st & 2nd novel since it seems like this catches up on the fates of the lead characters from it. (Mind you, I'm not so sure that you can really spoiler typical category genre romances all that much, since they're supposed to end in HEA anyway and it's expected that they'll triumph over adversity as a part of that?)
Currently free @
Amazon (available to Canadians & in the
UK). This is a brand-new release and will probably become free in the other stores once it shows up, since BBB have been pretty generous about multi-store freebie-ing these kind of promo tie-in stories.
Description
What was hidden is now found.
It has been a decade since King Dare and the flashbow warrior Dax reunited to protect their world. The Coalition has been driven out, but they have never given up on regaining the jewel that is Trios, and the battle is ongoing. The constant threat of the Coalition is a heavy load to carry, but it is made easier for King Dare and Dax by the presence of their mates, Queen Shaylah and Califa, and brightened immeasurably by their children, Lyon and Shaina.
At the urging of the queen, the families steal one single day away from the pressure, a day of rest spent at one of the few pristine spots left on their beloved planet, a place full of Dare's family history--a place where they find hope in a treasure thought lost forever, and their children unexpectedly discover what could well be the miracle to keep Trios safe.
