@NiLuJe: Thank you, you gave me the right idea by creating a new combined custom column "bookshelf" with date added and read (text yes, no). I excluded than everything I didn't want when I create a collection. I've now seperate collection for the last 6 months, each month only unread books.
Custom column bookshelf: {date:format_date(yyyy-MM)},{#read}
Exclude for collection: 19.*, 200.*, 2010.*, 2011.*, 2012.*, 2013.*, 2014-0.*, .*yes.*,
