I would fail miserably were you to ask me to pen a list of all the books I have read, but in general, if you mention the author+title of a book I will know whether or not I have read it. I haven't bought or downloaded any "doubles" (by accident, I should add) - thus far.

I do occasionally enter stuff in AllConsuming but that is more for fun. I probably should work on a cataloging system before dementia strikes. What were we discussing?

I haven't really looked at how the Sony reader keeps track of what page you are on in which book and where/when you have made bookmarks - it should be possible to distill this information and automatically keep track of what you read in XML/SGML or other suitable format suitable for (re)publishing elsewhere but I haven't been motivated enough to actually hack something together.
